Billy Gene  Kimes

Billy Gene Kimes, 82 of Mountainburg, Arkansas passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018 in North Little Rock, Arkansas. Billy was a Korean War veteran who served with the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Mansfield. He was a foreman for a large cattle operation in Kansas for several years followed by a stint as a construction worker, which ended with a catastrophic injury. After learning to walk again, he turned to hunting, fishing and making turkey calls. He became a serious student of turkey hunting and became a turkey hunting guide who assisted hunters from all over the United States on successful hunts. He loved his family, being in the woods and the music of George Jones. Billy was born on July 31, 1936 to the late Lee Roy and Cora Lee Kimes and raised by his paternal grandparents, the late John and Adelia Kimes. He was preceded in death by his much beloved wife, Barbara Kay (Kirby) Kimes, a brother, Ray McCoy Kimes and his favorite dog, Sad Sack.
Services will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at Ocker Chapel of Alma with interment at Conley Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma.
Survivors include a daughter Ginger Kimes (Kathy); a son, Max Kimes (Jeanettie); 4 grandchildren, Walter Kimes, William Kimes (Amy), Cynthia Kimes Campbell (Hunter) and Bella Kay Kimes; 2 great-grandchildren, Mackenzie and Emmarie and 3 sisters, Ramona Correia and Peggy Kimes both of California and Sue Bailey of Arkansas.
Pallbearers will be William Kimes, Walter Kimes, Hunter Campbell, Rodney Kimes, Ricky Kimes and Mike Turner.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Wade Kimes, Julie Rhodes, Billy Joe Atwell, Dewayne Fields, Opie Seratt and his many friends and family at the Chester Country Café.
The family will visit with friends on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Hwy 64 E., Alma, AR.
Memorials may be made to the Gospel Rescue Mission, 201 Drennen St, Van Buren, AR 72956; Arkansas Hospice 14 Parkstone Circle, North Little Rock, AR 72116 or Conley Cemetery, Mountainburg, AR.
Thank you to all the caring, loving and wonderful people that helped Bill during the last months, particularly those affiliated with Olivia Senior Home Care (Fort Smith), and Arkansas Hospice (North Little Rock). Also, thank you to Kathy White-Kimes, his daughter-in-law, for assisting with his care the last six months in North Little Rock by providing unending love, comfort, home-cooked meals and never letting him run out of Copenhagen.
