Life Story for Bobby Gene Coleman

Bobby Gene  Coleman
Bobby Gene Coleman, 66, of Fort Smith passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2017 in a Fort Smith hospital. He was born June 29, 1951 in Fort Smith to Billy Gene and Ruth Ann (Broom) Coleman. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bob retired from the US Naval Reserve as a LCDR and was a Vietnam era veteran. Bob earned a teaching degree from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, OK and a civil engineering degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville. Over the years, he worked as an environmental engineer at both Tinker Air Force Base and Fort Chaffee; he was a cartographer with the Tulsa Corp of Engineers in Tulsa, OK where he volunteered to go to Kuwait during the Iraq War to map oil fields. Bob retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Muskogee, OK where he was Regional Environmental Scientist and Division Chief for Environmental safety and Cultural Resources.
Bob was an avid reader and active member of the local writing community; he was a member of Oklahoma Mystery Writers, Oklahoma Writers' Conference, Western Arkansas Writers, Ozark Creative Writers and was a founding member of Nisus of Fort Smith. His short story "Crossing the Rubicon" was published in the journal Night (Tiwa Number 2, Spring 1993).
He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann (Martin) Coleman of the home; two sons, Alexis Enbarr Coleman of Conway, AR and Nicholas Aubrey Coleman and his wife Mary Frederica “Marika” (Dahlstrom) of Richardson, TX; two grandchildren, Wyatt Francis and Lucy Josephine Coleman both of Richardson, TX; one brother, Billy Dale Coleman and his wife Ruth Ann (Combs) of Fort Smith; two nieces, Christiana Beth (Coleman) Mathews and her husband Derek and Carrie Lynn (Coleman) Hill both of Fort Smith; one grandniece, Chloe Lynn Hill of Fort Smith and three grandnephews, Noah Thomas Mathews, Jeremiah Billy Mathews and Coleman Aaron Hill all of Fort Smith; one brother-in-law, John Franklin Martin and his wife Doris Mae (McKaughn) of Muskogee, OK.
Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday December 1, 2017 at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith with full military honors under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Sparks Cancer Center 1001 Towson Ave. Fort Smith, AR 72901 where Bob was receiving treatment for glioblastoma brain cancer.
