Obituary for Richard Lee Green

Richard Lee Green
Richard Lee Green, born 3-29-1941 and passed away on October 23, 2017 in Denton, Texas after many years of dementia/Alzheimer’s. He passed away with his family around him.
He was born in Alma, Arkansas to Dell & Lucille Green. He lived there on the family farm all his school years. He spent many hours, along with his 3 siblings, Ray, Mary & Delores, and parents, helping to raise all different kinds of vegetables and cattle. He worked his way through the University of Arkansas doing seismic work off the gulf coast swamp lands in Louisiana in the summers for Superior Oil.
He married Mary Ellen Glover in 1963. They went to Houston, Texas to find work and lived there for 30 years (except for 1 year in Bermuda). He worked for Exxon Risk Management for 32 years. He barely graduated from college, having to take a dancing class over the summer to bring his grade point up. A few years later Exxon changed their policy to only considering people with a 4.0 GPA. Had that been the case when Richard applied they would have missed out on an excellent employee. All his peers and associates thought highly of him.
His most important quality being his common sense. He was a man of his word, high morals, and high principals. He was a member of the Concord Baptist Church since 1953. Once he returned $400 to GM (half the cost of repairs on a Chevy truck) telling them they obviously needed the money more than he did. He had been a loyal customer for about 35 years. The next week he went out and bought 2 Ford products.
He taught himself how to play golf and then taught his 3 daughters. Two of them won state competitions and went on to receive college scholarships. He also had been proud of his first car in high school, a 57 Chevy. He had one built again but this one had all the bells & whistles including a LS7 corvette engine and is a beautiful maroon/red color.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen, 3 daughters, Kelly (& husband Tim), Leslie, and Trina. Proud of his 3 grandkids, 2nd Lt. Bryce (West Point graduate 2017 & attending MIT), Jefferson attending Norwich Military school in Vermont, graduating 2018, and Acadia attending Penn State University. Also, his sister, Delores Wallace of Alma & lots of wonderful nieces & nephews.
In lieu of flowers he asked that donations be made to the Alma HS 50’s Scholarship Fund, P O Box 2155, Alma, AR or to the charity of your choice.
Visitation will be 6:00 until 8:00 pm Friday evening, October 27, 2017 at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Hwy. 64 East, Alma, AR.
Service will be 12:00 p.m., Sat. October 28, 2017 at Ocker Chapel of Alma and interment in Gill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be 2nd Lt. Bryce Wilkins, Jeff Wilkins, Cadi Wilkins, Dennis Wallace, Larry Wallace and Darrell Wallace.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Winters, Myron Heck and Shane Bibby.
