Obituary for Jerry Glen Carter Jr.

Jerry Glen  Carter Jr.
Jerry “Glen” Carter, Jr. passed this life Sunday morning September 17, 2017 in Fort Smith with his wife and family by his side. Glen was born in Rota, Spain on October 27, 1965 to Jerry Glen Carter, Sr. and Laura (Jaime) Carter where his father was a Naval Officer in the U.S. Naval Air station. Glen's family moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in March of 1967 where he formed his love for the great outdoors and created many childhood memories around Spring Valley Lake. His family then moved to Fort Smith, Arkansas in 1976 where he attended Chaffin Junior High School and graduated from Southside High School in 1984. He graduated from Arkansas Tech University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He worked for Farmers Insurance for 29 years, beginning his career in Fayetteville, Arkansas and then finally settling back in Fort Smith. He was the Owner and Manager of Glen Carter Farmers Insurance Agency. Glen had a strong work ethic and commitment to excellence and was awarded the prestigious Farmers Insurance Agency Agent of the Year three separate times for his district, was in the Order of the Blue Vase, Toppers Club and received the Production Award as well as several other distinctions and awards. He married the love of his life, Cathy Crossno, on August 31st, 2013. He was a sports enthusiast and avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting while spending time with his father and friends. He is notably famous for bringing his friends and family together to enjoy his holiday smoked hams. Glen was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Jaime Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy and their four fur babies, Bogart, Nora, Sadie and Baby Girl; his father and stepmother, Jerry and Barbara Carter of Fort Smith, Arkansas; two sisters, Sonya Carter Coleman and her husband Dr. Michael Coleman, Jr. and their children, Madison Coleman Lampkin, of Little Rock, Arkansas, Caroline Carter Coleman, Campbell Riddick Coleman and Bennett Lawrence Coleman of Fort Smith ; his sister Tracy Carter Kibler and her husband Kirk Kibler and their children, Lillian Grace Kibler, William Beckett Kibler and Beatrice Rose Kibler of Dallas, Texas; stepsister, Alissa Van Komen and her husband Anthony Van Komen and their daughter, Avery Van Komen of Dallas, Texas and his stepbrother, Neal Doss of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21st at 11:00 AM at Ocker Putman Funeral Home Chapel of Fort Smith. Graveside services will be private.
The family will visit with friends, Wednesday, September 20th from 5-7 p.m. at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers are Robert Hoke, Donnie Dean, Larry Jones, Kirk Kibler, Dr. Michael Coleman, Jr. and Ben Shipley. Honorary Pallbearers are Robert Hall, Tim Armstrong, Mike “Big Mac” Mc Williams, Dr. Brian Cross and Wes Bond.
He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and his legacy will live on through all the lives he touched.
