Obituary for William Finis Coomer

William Finis  Coomer
William Finis Coomer was born on October 6, 1948 in Yoestown, Arkansas to Finis and Agnes (Oliver) Coomer. He worked for a lot of the farmers in the bottoms during his teenage years. Then he worked at the Norge Company that later became Whirlpool Corporation. He passed away at his home on Saturday, May 6, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents ; and a brother Dale Coomer. He was a Christian and a member of the Independence Freewill Baptist Church in Natural Dam, Arkansas.

Mr. Coomer’s service was conducted on Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, Arkansas with burial at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren, Arkansas.

He knew that he was going to be drafted, so he joined the Army. He was stationed in Korea as a military Policeman. He earned several honors and medals for sharpshooting and Marksmanship, among other honors. Upon honorable discharge from the Army he returned to his job at the Whirlpool Corporation where he worked for over 40 years. He loved gardening and loved his yellow roses. His favorite hobbies were fishing and camping with his wife of 17 years and their fur babies, Lucy and Rusty.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce of 17 years; three daughters, Rhonda Thornburg of Greenwood, Charlotte Jones and Carolyn Jenkins of Van Buren; three sons, Michael Coomer of Seattle, Washington, Douglas Coomer of Fayetteville, Arkansas and Matthew Coomer of Tonititown, Arkansas; two sisters, Sandra Smith of Kibler and Donna Metheney of Van Buren; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and his friend and mother of his children Sandra Lorraine Coomer.

The family would like to thank Peach Tree Hospice for the wonderful care they gave from the start to the end. We were all treated with complete care and dignity; “and that beats all I’ve have ever seen in my life”.

Pallbearers were Joe Howard, Terence Lincoln, Doug Coomer, Matthew Coomer, Matthew Taber, Michael Coomer and Mark Shibley.

Honorary pallbearers were members of his Sunday School Class at Independence Freewill Baptist Church in Natural Dam, Arkansas.
