James Cletus Powell, 91 of Van Buren passed away Monday, April 3, 2017 in a local hospital. He was retired from Centel Phone Company as a branch manager. He was a member of the Van Buren American Legion and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Van Buren, Cedarville and Mt. Vernon, MO. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, his parents Luther Powell and Mary Ethel (Stewart) Powell, two brothers Lewis and Virgil Powell and a great grandchild Luke Kinard.

Funeral services will be 10AM, Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Ocker Memorial Chapel in Van Buren with burial at Gill Cemetery with military honors under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home in Van Buren.

He is survived by three daughters Janie McCright and her husband Reggie of Benton, Janet Autry of Van Buren and Jean Schook and her husband David of Van Buren; one brother Billy Powell of Kansas City; one sister Mary Sue Carlson of Kansas City; four grandchildren Elizabeth Hubbard, Suzanne Taylor, Amanda Crossno and Lauren Jones and five great grandchildren.

Family will visit with relatives and friends Wednesday, April 5, 2017 from 5-7 PM at Ocker Funeral Home 700 Jefferson Street Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Warren Harrison, Richard Dudley, Jim Birch, Bill Taylor, Hubert Milican, and Bruce Copeland.
