David Paul Edwards, 74, of Fort Smith, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2016 in a local hospital. He was born on October 3, 1941 in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Paul and Bertha (Ayers) Edwards. David proudly served his Country and was a Vietnam Army veteran. Following his time in the service he went to work for Southwestern Bell / AT&T, he was a dedicated employee and retired after 30 years. He attended Christ the King Catholic Church and was devoted to his faith. David was known to his grandchildren as Papa and they were his greatest joy. He spent countless hours with them teaching them to hunt, fish and golf and was their biggest fan at all of their sporting events. When not with his grandchildren he was on the golf course enjoying the company of his good friends, “The Caballeros”. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Alford and Johnny Edwards. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Kaddoura and the Doctors and Nurses at Sparks.
A private family held memorial service with honors will be at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Visitation is from 5-7PM on Thursday, July 28th at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home in Fort Smith, AR.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sonja of the home; one daughter, Kris Ann Byars of Fort Smith, AR; one son, David Edwards of Fort Smith, AR; one sister, Darla Ridgeway and her husband Bill of Hot Springs, AR and seven grandchildren, Ben and Sam Byars, Jackson and Ethan Edwards and their mother Amanda Minish, Harper Edwards, Hannah and Dawson Shamblin and their mother, Lindsey Shamblin.
Mr. Edwards was cremated under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Arkansas
