Ross Dickson  Valentine Jr.
Ross Dickson Valentine, Jr., 79, of Alma, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 in his home. He began his law enforcement career in 1962 until 1965 with the Fort Smith Police Department continuing from 1965 until 1985 with the Arkansas State Police Troop H in Fort Smith where he was assigned to patrol Crawford County until his retirement in August 1985. He was a member of the Arkansas State Police Association, the Arkansas State Police Retirees Association and a member of the First Baptist Church of Alma. He was a Mason and a member of the Alma and New Blaine Masonic Lodges, Western Arkansas Consistory and Melody Chapter of the Eastern Star. He was a retired Captain of the Alma Volunteer Fire Department and a former member of the Army National Guard. He was born April 13, 1935 in Subiaco, Arkansas to the late Ross Dickson Valentine, Sr. and Ocie (Bennett) Valentine.
Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Alma with a private family interment in Evergreen Cemetery under the direction of Ocker Funeral Home of Alma. The family will visit with friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. Friday at Ocker Funeral Home of Alma, 917 Hwy. 64 East, Alma.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Hilda Valentine of the home; three sons, Roy Valentine and wife Denise, Jerry Valentine and wife Cindy and Carl Valentine and wife Tammy all of Alma, AR; two sisters, Ann Davis of St. Charles, MO and Ola Joy Hixon of Paris, AR; five granddaughters, Krista Tapp and husband David of Conway, AR, Cheska Neal and husband Brett of Plainsboro, NJ, Kara Elmore and husband Nathan of Alma, Carleigh Valentine of Little Rock, AR, Savannah Valentine of Alma and one grandson, Zackary Valentine of Alma; four great grandchildren, Wesley, Isabella and Avery Tapp and Hanna Neal.
Pallbearers will be members of the Arkansas State Police. Honorary pallbearers will be all area law enforcement officers.
